Three layers of redundancy for a hospital that cannot go dark

A major regional hospital system serving four million people needed a WAN with no single point of failure.

SimpleCom engineered and installed a three-layer, multi-carrier design.

The challenge

No room for a single point of failure

The hospital serves millions of people across dozens of counties. Clinical systems, records and communications depend on the network, so an outage is a patient care problem.

The design needed multiple carriers and multiple technologies, plus the engineering and installation depth to put it all on one campus.

The solution

Three layers of WAN, engineered as one

SimpleCom designed a multi-carrier SD-WAN where each layer uses a different technology, then engineered and installed it end to end.

Primary: fiber

Three 10G fiber connections carry everyday traffic.

Backup: coax

Three 1G coax connections on a separate path.

Tertiary: wireless

Two mmWave fixed wireless links plus Starlink satellite.

Engineered and installed

Design, rooftop work and turn-up by SimpleCom.

The result

A third, independent path if fiber and coax both fail

The hospital now runs on three independent layers across different carriers and technologies, so a cut cable or a single carrier outage does not take the campus offline.
