The challenge
Older routers behind 300 end-of-life kiosks
The operator’s digital signage kiosks ran on an older generation of cellular routers that were reaching end of life. Seasonal kiosks also needed internet service that could go up and come down with the calendar.
They were not looking for a box of hardware. They wanted a fully managed solution with onsite installation, service level agreements and network operations center coverage.
The solution
A managed 5G platform built for now and next
SimpleCom treated the connectivity problem as an opportunity, specifying 5G-capable devices that cover today’s signage and leave room for what the operator wants to do next.
Fully managed 5G
Installed, monitored and supported by SimpleCom under SLA, with NOC services.
Onsite installation
SimpleCom technicians at every kiosk, scheduled around mall operations.
Seasonal connectivity
Fast service for pop-up and seasonal kiosks without new wiring.
Edge-ready hardware
Devices that can run applications in the modem for real-time analytics.
The result
The scope grew from 300 kiosks to the whole portfolio
The project was set to replace 300 end-of-life kiosks. The operator replaced all of them, more than 1,000, and now uses the same devices to offer instant Wi-Fi to vendors as a revenue stream. SimpleCom is now its partner for every cellular deployment.
